An excellent tour to bring to an end the boys time in the Junior section.
Tries: Scott Donnelly

Though the score line suggest a bit of a hammering it has to be taken in the context of Rhiwbina only having 14 players to a St Peters full quota of 15 players plus subs. St Peters declined to even up the numbers for a fair contest so the score line was never in doubt.

With freezing conditions causing a switch of pitch at Trelai, both teams went on
to serve up a game of high intensity which unfortunately boiled over at times.
With Rhiwbina playing up the slope and into the sun, the opening period was dominated
by the hosts as Rhiwbina struggled to get out of their own half. Rhiwbina weathered
the storm to eventually move upfield and James Edmonds quick thinking at a ruck sped
down the blind side to touch down for the game’s first try and put Rhiwbina into
a 0-
The Wanderers responded with a converted try of their own to take the score to 7-
The second half saw Rhiwbina playing with the elements and enjoying plenty of opportunities to score but the final pass or last ditch tackle denied them the points. Rhiwbina also missed a couple of penalties but considering the possession they had should have made more of them.
Though the boys performed well as a team there were some standout performances by Jack Sanders, James Edmonds and Tom Morris at fullback.

Thanks to Rumney RFC for the loan of 2players…
Tries: Connor Bickford, Huw Brobin, and Tom Morris, Rumney player on loan…!

Rhiwbina was only able to field a less than minimum squad resulting from players
again… having 2 fulfill their Blues commitments, being depleted by a school game
organized for this weekend, and through no fault of their own several players recovering
from nasty injuries.
Penarth RFC was in the same boat, however both sides still managed 2come together and play a fast flowing game in perfect conditions. Players from both sides enjoyed the run out showing their skills 2perfection. …Enjoyment…it’s what it’s all about…!

Good start poor finish all said…and done…!!!
Try by Jake Priday after an incredible drive at the line by the Rhiwbina forwards…Josh Rees clinching the conversion…
RRFC 7-
1st game of the season…let the sun shine…!
The disruption caused to Clubs trying to fulfil this season’s rugby fixtures is very noticeable with the loss of players having 2 fulfil their U16s Blues commitments.
Rhiwbina RFC success at teaching this squad of very talented players to shine out over many seasons is now backfiring!
Rhiwbina RFC missing 9players on loan to the Blues, 4 more representing their school on the day, left us with such a depleted squad that we were unable 2field a team. St.Peters RFC were in a similar position but generously were able 2lend us players to field a mixed squad, enabling our remaining boys 2play ball!
I appreciate is a great opportunity for those boys to represent the Blues, but there has to be a way to limit the effects this has on U16s Club rugby at weekends…it would help if there was some communication from the Blues Development Squad and a fixture list published at least…!
However, both teams came together 2provide a fast moving, skilful, and an enjoyable game. St Peters players donning the RRFC colours and not worrying about playing rugby against their teamm8tes, but playing rugby for the love of it.
Rhiwbina boys, mostly playing out of position took the lead in the first half with a breakaway try from Tom Morris, skilfully converted by Josh Rees.
The second half saw 2more trys determinedly scored by the Rocks both converted.
Rhiwbina came back with 2trys from the players “on loan”, and a conversion by Josh.
Our thanks 2the St.Peters RFC U15s and U16s.
The final score… a 19-
Once again Rhiwbina have good representation in this years Blues South U16’s with
David Gooding, Owen Paul and Rhys Calder all making the final squad.
In the Blues
South U16’s Development squad Zach Bartlett, Huw Brobin, Jake Chilcott, Hugh Meatyard,
Tom Morris and Connor Bickford came thru an initial selection of over 100 players
to make the final cut.
Well done guys!
